Cancer treatment is most effective when detected early, but access to diagnosis and treatment is limited in rural Odisha.
Cancer treatment is most effective when detected early, but access to diagnosis and treatment is limited in rural Odisha. To bridge this gap, we launched the Cancer Survivor Ambassador Program, which operates at the grassroots level to:
Early Identification of Cancer Cases: Our trained cancer survivor ambassadors work within communities to identify potential childhood cancer cases and ensure early referrals to the right hospitals. These community outreach volunteers are often cancer survivors themselves, serving as role models for others.
Referral and Navigation Support: Cancer survivor ambassadors collaborate with local health centers to establish referral pathways that quickly direct children from rural areas to specialized cancer centers in city.
Support Beyond Treatment: Once a child begins treatment, our Cancer survivor ambassadors stay connected, monitoring their progress and ensuring they return for follow-up care. They also assist families with the documentation needed for financial aid and health insurance.
